Mackenzie, New Zealand
Lake Tekapo
Lake Tekapo is an alpine lake located at the northern end of the Mackenzie Basin in the central South Island. The surface of the lake shines with a unique milky turquoise color due to the flow of meltwater containing fine rocks carved by the glaciers of the Southern Alps. In addition to the beauty of the lake, the area is known for its starry skies, which can be seen under the clear air on many clear days throughout the year, and the area has been designated as one of the world's largest star sanctuaries. The small town by the lake is lined with hotels and restaurants, and is popular as a resort area where you can relax and enjoy the beauty of nature.
Mount Cook Area
Mt. Cook is the highest peak in the Southern Alps that traverse the South Island of New Zealand at 3,724 meters above sea level. This mountain is surrounded by many high mountains, vast glaciers, and beautiful lakes, making it one of the most magnificent natural areas in New Zealand. A World Natural Heritage site, it is a treasure trove of nature, and offers a variety of ways for tourists to enjoy it, such as trekking courses to enjoy the spectacular scenery and Cessna cruises to view the overwhelming scale of the glaciers from above.
