Acronauplia

The hilltop Acronauplia fortress occupies most of the peninsular part of Nafplio. The fortress was built on what was once an acropolis (a small hill that became the symbol of the city) in ancient Greek times, and developed under the rule of a succession of changing nations. The historical site, with its thick walls and ruins of gun emplacements, is a popular tourist attraction as a viewpoint from which to admire the beautiful city of Nafplio and the Argolic Gulf.

Nafplio

Nafplio is a port city located in the eastern Peloponnese, deep in the Argolic Gulf. The city has existed since ancient times, and since the Middle Ages it has developed as a fortified city under the rule of various countries. In the old town around the port, narrow alleys decorated with colorful flowers are lined with hotels with a peaceful atmosphere and restaurants where visitors can enjoy seafood. The city is a bustling tourist destination and a base for visiting ancient sites such as Mycenae and Epidaurus.
