Maiden's Tower

About 200 meters from the shore of Üsküdar, the Maiden's Tower stands alone in the Bosphorus. This rocky beach was used as a landing place in ancient Athens. In the Byzantine Empire, a chain was stretched between the tower and the other side of the strait to prevent enemies from entering. During the Ottoman Empire, the tower became a watchtower and later a lighthouse and quarantine station, watching over ships passing through the straits. Today, the tower is a restaurant and a popular spot for tourists to enjoy the beautiful sunset view.
