Bologna, Italy
Maggiore Street
Maggiore Street starts at the base of the Leaning Tower, the symbol of Bologna, and runs southeast to the Porta Maggiore, one of the 12 gates built into the wall that surrounded Bologna in the Middle Ages. Along the street are stores, churches, and museums, and the cobblestones and porticoes create an atmosphere typical of the old town.
Bologna
Bologna, the capital of Emilia-Romagna, has been weaving its history since BC. Bologna is famous for its medieval cityscape, with its characteristic porticos, or covered colonnades, lining the streets. Bologna is also known as a "student town" with the oldest university in Europe, founded in 1088, and as a "gastronomic town" with many local delicacies such as Bolognese and mortadella.
