Archaeological Site of Ollantaytambo

The magnificent archaeological site of Ollantaytambo were built on a hill facing the Urubamba Valley on the way to Machu Picchu from Cusco. "Ollantay" is the name of a general of the Inca Empire and "Tambo" means a travel inn. It is said to have been a lodging place for travelers on the Inca Trail that stretched throughout the empire, or a religious facility dedicated to the sun god.
