Yakushima, Japan
Ohko Falls
Ohko Falls is a dynamic waterfall located near the coast in the southwestern part of Yakushima. Among the many waterfalls on Yakushima, it is the largest in terms of both drop and water volume. It is said that it rains for 35 days in a month, and the large amount of water brought by the abundant rainfall, flowing down the 88m drop in one fell swoop, is a powerful sight. From the promenade leading to the waterfall basin, you can feel the grandeur of the waterfall as it splashes down on you.
Yakushima
Floating on the ocean south of Kagoshima, the island of Yakushima is home to steep mountains, with the 1,936-meter-high Mt. Miyanoura. Thanks to the blessing of rainfall, which is the highest in Japan, the island has a great natural environment with deep green forests and many beautiful waterfalls. A variety of plants can be seen depending on the altitude, and the 1,000-year-old Yakusugi cedars that live in the highlands are carefully protected as a symbol of the island.
