Yamakawa Salt Factory Ruins
In the Fushime coastal area of Yamakawa, Ibusuki City, hot spring water gushes out at a temperature of about 100 degrees Celsius. The Yamakawa salt factory was operated using this hot spring for about 20 years from 1943. The salt manufacturing facilities of those days, which are no longer in use, remain in their original state, and the salt fields filled with hot spring water and steam remind us of those days. With Mt. Kaimondake in the background, this is a precious industrial heritage site where visitors can enjoy the beautiful scenery.
Ibusuki, Nansatsu
Nansatsu, located at the southern tip of the Satsuma Peninsula, is blessed with a mild climate and an abundance of nature in the mountains and the sea. The area is full of sights to see, such as the beautiful cone-shaped Mt. Kaimon and Ibusuki famous for unique sand steam baths, the scenic rias coastline, and samurai residences that retain the atmosphere of Edo period (1603-1868). You can also enjoy a gourmet trip to explore local specialties such as bonito, sweet potato shochu, and tea.
