Shiratani Unsuikyo
Shiratani Unsuikyo Gorge is a deep green forest where moss, nurtured by the beautiful mountain stream of the Shiratani River, covers the rocks and tree trunks. There are old Yakusugi cedar trees that have grown into various shapes and have a strong presence, as well as coniferous trees such as Tsuga and fir, and broad-leaved trees such as oak and tabunoki, creating a rich, moist, and ethereal world. The trekking course that allows you to fully enjoy this magnificent nature has become one of the most popular tourist spots in Yakushima.
Yakushima
Floating on the ocean south of Kagoshima, the island of Yakushima is home to steep mountains, with the 1,936-meter-high Mt. Miyanoura. Thanks to the blessing of rainfall, which is the highest in Japan, the island has a great natural environment with deep green forests and many beautiful waterfalls. A variety of plants can be seen depending on the altitude, and the 1,000-year-old Yakusugi cedars that live in the highlands are carefully protected as a symbol of the island.
