Machu Picchu ruins
The ruins of Machu Picchu were built around 1450 during the Inca Empire on a ridge of the Andes Mountains, about 80 km from the capital Cusco at an altitude of about 2,430 meters. The aerial city, built overlooking the valley, is thought to have housed religious facilities for praying to the sun god and villas for royalty. Against the backdrop of Mount Huayna Picchu, the elaborate temples and dwellings clinging to the mountainside and the beautiful terraced fields stretching down to the foot of the mountain are a wonderful reminder of a civilization that has perished.
Machu Picchu
Machu Picchu is a ruin of the Inca civilization that suddenly appears on a ridge of the Andes Mountains at an altitude of 2,430 meters. It was built around 1450 during the reign of Emperor Pachacutec, who developed the Incas into an empire. From the village of Machu Picchu at the foot of the mountain, you will take a 30-minute bus ride up the zigzag Hiram Bingham Road, named after the American explorer who discovered the ruins. You will see the miraculously beautiful view of the aerial city that has escaped the destruction of the Spanish and remains in its original state.
