Mangystau, Kazakhstan
Bozjyra
The Ustyurt Plateau stretches across Mangystau in southwestern Kazakhstan. One of the most representative spots of its distinctive topography is Bozjyra. Several limestone mountains as high as 200 meters rise out of the dry sandy ground as far as the eye can see. It is as if you have wandered into another planet, a world of rock and sand all around, where you are simply overwhelmed by the astonishing scale of nature, and here you will have a rare and extraordinary moment.
Ustyurt Plateau
The Ustyurt Plateau stretches across Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and Turkmenistan. It is a desert area of approximately 200,000 square kilometers, with cliffs more than 150 meters high on its periphery. The uplift of geological strata accumulated at the bottom of the sea in prehistoric times and weathering has created a variety of landforms. Camping tours are popular to visit miraculous and spectacular landscapes such as canyons that seem to cut through the earth and pure white rock peaks.
