Tadasu no Mori

Tadasu no Mori is an old-growth forest surrounding Shimogamo Shrine, which has a long history and still retains vegetation from the Jomon period. The vast forest of about 120,000 square meters is covered with about 40 species of trees, mainly deciduous trees such as muku-no-oki and zelkova. The approach to Shimogamo Shrine, which is visited by many people, is a healing spot where the trees form a tunnel of greenery that gently envelops the worshippers.

Shimogamo Shrine has a long history, with records dating back to 90 AD. Many people come here every day to seek the blessings of marriage and childbirth. The ancient primeval forest of Tadasu, the Kamo River and the Takano River that flow across the shrine, and other soothing scenery make it a spot of healing.
