Philosopher's Walk
The Philosopher's Walk is a 2-kilometer long walking path along the gentle flow of the Lake Biwa Canal. The narrow path sometimes goes through trees, sometimes along residential areas, and generally offers a relaxing walk in a calm atmosphere. There are many temples and shrines scattered around the area, including Kumano-Nyakuoji Shrine to the south and Ginkakuji Temple to the north, and the area is crowded with tourists throughout the year who enjoy the seasonal scenery of cherry blossoms, hydrangeas, and autumn leaves while visiting them.
Philosopher's Walk Area
The Philosopher's Walk is a scenic stroll along the Lake Biwa Canal, which runs along the foot of Higashiyama. The path is lined with famous temples such as Ginkakuji Temple to the north and Eikando and Nanzenji to the south. During the cherry blossom and autumn foliage seasons, many people come and go along the path, admiring the beautifully colored scenery. There are also many cafes and Japanese sweets shops in the area, where you can enjoy a leisurely stroll while stopping by.
