Amabiki Kannon
Amabiki Kannon, nestled on the slopes of Mt. Amabiki in the northern part of the Tsukuba mountain range, is an ancient temple formally known as Rakuhō-ji. It serves as the 24th pilgrimage site of the Bando 33 Kannon Pilgrimage. It is said to have been founded in 587 AD, and Emperor Shomu and Empress Komyo reportedly prayed here for a safe childbirth, which was successfully granted, leading to the temple becoming a center of faith for safe childbirth and child-rearing. It is also renowned as a seasonal floral destination, famous for its cherry blossoms, hydrangeas, and autumn leaves.
Chikusei, Sakuragawa
Chikusei and Sakuragawa are located at the western foothills of the Tsukuba Mountains. Chikusei's center, Shimodate, once a castle town, remains a crucial hub for rail transport today. The steam locomotive train departing from Shimodate Station to Motegi Station in Tochigi is particularly popular among tourists. The town of Makabe is also renowned for its traditional streetscapes. Additionally, the area is famous for its flowers like cherry blossoms and sunflowers, and offers nostalgic scenes of rural hills and rice paddies, showcasing the region's abundant natural beauty and history.
