Iriomote Island, Okinawa, Japan
Shiira River
In the eastern part of Iriomote Island, behind the village of Komi, lies the Shiira River. From the observatory at the foot of the bridge that passes through the mouth of the river, you can enjoy a spectacular view of the mangrove forests, jungles, and mountains on both banks of the river, which is typical of Iriomote Island. When the tide is low, you can observe creatures such as Hakusensiomanes and southern flying gobies on the mudflats at the mouth of the river, or go upstream on a kayak tour.
