It is a part of the Shimanami Kaido Highway, which has a bicycle and pedestrian path as well as a freeway. It is the first suspension bridge for cyclists who take the ferry from Onomichi and start cycling, and it provides an exhilarating ride over the sea with a view of the islands of the Seto Inland Sea.
Shimanami Kaido
The Shimanami Kaido is a freeway that connects Onomichi City in Hiroshima Prefecture with Imabari City in Ehime Prefecture. The suspension bridge has a bicycle and pedestrian path attached to it, and a 70-km-long cycling road has been constructed connecting the suspension bridge to the public road on each island. Cycling along the road while enjoying the spectacular view of the Seto Inland Sea is sure to be an exhilarating experience.
