Daishoin Temple

Located at the foot of the Mount Misen, not far from Itsukushima Shrine, Daishoin Temple was founded by Kukai in 806 and is a temple with a rich history, including a tea ceremony held by Toyotomi Hideyoshi and lodging for Emperor Meiji during his visit. Among the many statues of Buddha and Jizo enshrined on the temple grounds, there is a particularly strong devotion to Sanki Daigongen, the deity of Mount Misen, and many visitors come to pray for safety at home.

Miyajima

Since ancient times, Miyajima Island in Hiroshima Prefecture has appeared in waka poems and paintings as a place of scenic beauty and is one of the three most scenic spots in Japan. The island has been worshipped as the island of the gods, and its unique culture and unspoiled virgin forest still live on. After visiting the quaint shrines and temples, you can take the ropeway up the Mount Misen and look out over the islands of the Seto Inland Sea, or indulge in the famous oysters and momiji manju (steamed buns) along the approach.
