Genkoan Temple
Located in the northwestern part of Kyoto, Genkoan was founded in 1346 as a temple of the Rinzai sect of Buddhism by Master Tetto, and in 1694 it became a temple of the Soto sect of Buddhism with Zen Master Manzan Dohaku as its founder. The main hall built at this time still stands here today. The quiet temple along the Takagamine Kaido Road is well known for its autumn foliage and is crowded with visitors in the fall.
Kinkakuji Temple Area
Kinkakuji Temple is so famous for its golden Shari-den, a representative architecture of the Muromachi period (1336-1573). The "Kinukake Road," a sightseeing road built in front of the temple, leads to Ryoanji Temple and Ninnaji Temple. All you can see from the spacious precincts of each temple are trees. You can forget the hustle and bustle of the city and think about history.
