Nagahama North Biwa Lake Fireworks Festival
The Nagahama North Biwa Lake Fireworks Festival, a summer tradition in northern Lake Biwa, started in 1980 and has been held every year on August 5 at Nagahama Port. About 10,000 fireworks are set off one after another over the vast, unobstructed Lake Biwa for an hour, not only coloring the night sky but also reflecting on the surface of the lake, enveloping the entire darkness of the night in colorful colors and music.
Nagahama, Kohoku
Nagahama is a historical town that still retains the atmosphere of a castle town built by Toyotomi Hideyoshi. Centered on Nagahama, the Kohoku area is blessed with rich nature, with Mount Ibuki, the highest mountain in Shiga Prefecture, to the east and the vast Lake Biwa to the west. The area is full of attractions, from numerous hiking courses with magnificent views to spots where you can feel the romance of history, such as the remains of battles from the Warring States Period (1493-1590) and inn towns from the Edo Period (1603-1868).
