Hieizan Enryakuji Temple (Yokawa)

Hieizan Enryakuji Temple was founded in 788 by Saicho, the founder of the Tendai sect of Buddhism, and has been a place of study and training for more than 1,200 years. Hieizan Enryakuji Temple has produced many famous monks who became the founders of famous Buddhist sects, and has flourished as the center of Buddhism in Japan. The vast precincts of the temple, with about 100 halls on the hillside of Mount Hiei overlooking Lake Biwa and the city of Kyoto, are always crowded with worshippers and hikers.

Otsu

Otsu, the ancient capital of Japan, has nurtured a history of more than 1,300 years since its capital was established in the Asuka Period (592-710). As the outer port of Heian-kyo, Otsu became a strategic point for traffic on the lake and also prospered as a post town on the Tokaido highway. In the beautiful natural setting of the Hira and Hiei mountains and Lake Biwa, there are many temples and shrines that offer a taste of travel.
