Old University of Bologna (Archiginnasio)
The University of Bologna, founded in 1088, is the oldest university in Europe, and the Archiginnasio building was built in 1563 to consolidate the dispersed facilities of the University of Bologna into one. Today, it is used as the city library, and some parts of the building have been preserved in their original state for tourists to see.

Bologna is famous for its medieval cityscape, with its characteristic porticos, or covered colonnades, lining the streets. Bologna is also known as a "student town" with the oldest university in Europe, founded in 1088, and as a "gastronomic town" with many local delicacies such as Bolognese and mortadella.
