Fez, Morocco
Medina of Fes
The vast medina (old city) of Fes, Fes el Bali, surrounded by small hills, was built at the end of the 8th century by the Idris dynasty, the first Islamic dynasty in Morocco. Since then, the city has flourished as the capital of many dynasties and is still a vibrant center of traditional Moroccan crafts. As you wander through the maze of narrow alleyways, you will discover a mosque with beautiful mosaics, a seminary, colorful stores selling pottery and leather goods, and much more.
Fes
Fes, an inland city in northern Morocco, has been the capital of various dynasties since the 9th century. The city center is divided into three districts built in different periods. After strolling through the maze-like World Heritage Old Town of Fes el Bali, you may want to stop by Fes el-Jdid, built by the Marines in the 13th century, and Ville Nouvelle, built in 1916 under French rule, to reflect on the historical changes.
