Doro-kyo Gorge

Doro-kyo is a steep but beautiful gorge located upstream of the Kitayama River, which runs through Wakayama, Nara and Mie prefectures. The gorges are called Okutoro, Kamidoro, and Shimodoro from the upper reaches, each with its own unique scenery. In particular, the section called Doro-Hatcho in Shimodoro is known for its dynamic topography, with giant rocks up to 50 meters high and odd-shaped rocks appearing one after another, and is a highlight of Doro-kyo sightseeing.

Iseji, Kumano Kodo

The Kumano Kodo is a pilgrimage route to Kumano, which has flourished since the Middle Ages as the largest sacred site in Japan. Among them, the "Iseji" is a 170-km pilgrimage route connecting Ise Shrine and Kumano Sanzan (three shrines of Kumano), which was crowded with ordinary people in the Edo period (1603-1868). In recent years, walking courses along the path, which still retains the beautiful stone pavement and scenic coastline, have become popular.
