Uzbekistan, located in Central Asia, has historically flourished as a crossroads of the Silk Road. While it is a landlocked country with no sea, and deserts occupy most of its land, it is also characterized by its expressive nature, with mountains rising in the Western Tien-Shan and Hisar Range, the Fergana Valley with its fertile soil, and the Aral Sea, a vast salt lake. The country is also known for its precious cultural heritage. Especially, the oasis cities of Samarkand, the Blue City, with its beautiful madrasas and mosques, and Bukhara, which flourished as the center of Islamic culture, are still retains the prosperity of Middle Ages.
