Vienna, Austria
University of Vienna
Founded in 1365, the University of Vienna is the oldest university in the German-speaking world and one of the most historic and largest in Europe. While its campuses are spread throughout the city, the main building—constructed in 1884 in Neo-Renaissance style along Vienna’s Ringstrasse—remains the heart of the university. Visitors are welcome to explore the campus, including its courtyard surrounded by elegant arcades and the historic library.
Ringstrasse and Old Town
From the 10th to the 19th century, the center of Vienna was surrounded by a defensive city wall, and the Ringstrasse (Ring Road) was built on the site of the wall after it was torn down in 1858. Along the Ring, lined with gorgeous buildings such as the Parliament Building and the Opera House, symbols of a modern city, together with the cityscape from the days of the royal city that stretches inside the Ring, it is a major tourist attraction filled with the beauty of Vienna.
