Seigantoji Temple

Nachisan Seigantoji Temple stands adjacent to Kumano Nachi Taisha Shrine, one of the Kumano Sanzan. From the Middle Ages to the early modern period, the temple has been a part of Nachi Taisha Shrine and has attracted many worshippers as a sacred place of Kumano worship and the first of the Saigoku Kannon Pilgrimage. The temple is located in the middle of Mt. Nachi at an elevation of 330 meters, and is reached by 473 stone steps from the entrance of the approach. The temple grounds are full of worth-seeing spots, including the main hall built by Toyotomi Hideyoshi in the Azuchi–Momoyama period (1573-1603) and the three-story vermilion-lacquered pagoda that blends harmoniously with Nachi Falls.

Kumano Sanzan

Kumano Sanzan is the collective name for three shrines: Kumano Hongu Taisha, Kumano Nachi Taisha, and Kumano Hayatama Taisha. Kumano Sanzan started as a place of nature worship, and as a "gateway to the Pure Land," the faith spread from the imperial family to the common people. Visitors are welcomed with a majestic atmosphere created by history.
