Bern, Switzerland
Bern Minster
Bern Minster, with its magnificent late Gothic spire, is a landmark in the Old City. Construction began in 1421, but was interrupted for almost three centuries along the way and was finally completed in 1893. The church is blessed with many historic attractions, including a relief of the Last Judgment from the Catholic era, the only remaining church that converted to Protestantism, and beautiful stained-glass windows from the 15th century.
Bern
The capital of Switzerland, Bern, overlooking the Bernese Alps to the south, was founded at the end of the 12th century by Duke Berthold V of Zähringen on a small hill surrounded on three sides by the winding River Aare. The city's stone cathedral, clock tower, arcades, and numerous fountains decorated with ornate sculptures are all part of the medieval atmosphere of this World Heritage-listed city, which can be viewed from nearby Rose Garden.
