Wolfgangsee
Wolfgangsee is a crystal clear lake in the mountains of the Salzkammergut, one of the most scenic areas in Austria. It is renowned as one of the most beautiful of the many lakes in the area, and several towns located on the lake's shores are busy summer resorts. Numerous hiking trails around the lake offer spectacular scenery and fresh air. There are also many activities to enjoy the lake, such as sightseeing boats that ply the lake, and mountain railroads that take you to the top of the mountain for views from the top.
Salzkammergut
The Salzkammergut, located to the east of Salzburg and straddling three Austrian provinces, has long been a favorite resort for aristocrats for its scenic beauty of Alpine mountains and lakes. “Salz" means salt, and "Kammergut" means a royal estate, and from the 14th century onward, this area, where precious salt is extracted, was the domain of the Habsburgs. This paradise, a favorite of Emperor Franz Joseph I, continues to attract many people today as a summer resort and a mecca for winter sports.
