Kyoto Aquarium
Located in Umekoji Park to the west of Kyoto Station, the Kyoto Aquarium opened in 2012 as an inland aquarium using 100% artificial seawater. The aquarium is crowded with families and children on field trips every day, as they can interact with about 250 species of creatures, including dolphins and seals, in the city of Kyoto, far from the sea. Cute goods and food menus in the shape of sea and river creatures are also popular.
Kyoto Station Area
Kyoto Station is the gateway to Kyoto, where the Shinkansen and other railroads depart and arrive. The landmark of the station is the open-air station building with its huge atrium and the uniquely shaped Kyoto Tower towering across from it. Although it is far from the center of the city, there are plenty of department stores, underground shopping malls, and sightseeing spots that can be reached on foot, such as Toji Temple, Sanjusangendo Temple, and Umekoji Park.
