Machu Picchu, Peru
llamas at Machu Picchu ruins
When walking around the Machu Picchu ruins, you may come across herds of llamas that roam the ruins with ease. The llama is a member of the camel family that lives in the highlands of the Andes Mountains. They have been closely related to the lives of Andean people since the pre-Inca period, and are still known as Peru's representative domestic animal. The llamas at the Machu Picchu ruins are friendly and sociable, and provide visitors with a soothing moment when they are photographed.
Machu Picchu
Machu Picchu is a ruin of the Inca civilization that suddenly appears on a ridge of the Andes Mountains at an altitude of 2,430 meters. It was built around 1450 during the reign of Emperor Pachacutec, who developed the Incas into an empire. From the village of Machu Picchu at the foot of the mountain, you will take a 30-minute bus ride up the zigzag Hiram Bingham Road, named after the American explorer who discovered the ruins. You will see the miraculously beautiful view of the aerial city that has escaped the destruction of the Spanish and remains in its original state.
