Hachimantai Summit Nature Trail
Mount Hachimantai, rising 1,614 meters above sea level on the border of Iwate and Akita prefectures, is known for its gentle plateau landscape and beautiful scenery throughout the seasons. Several walking trails cross the area, but the most popular is the summit loop trail, an easy route for beginners that takes about two hours and passes crater ponds and untouched forests around the mountaintop.
Hachimantai Area
Hachimantai is a highland area stretching across Iwate and Akita prefectures. It is known for its refreshing summer scenery, where volcanic crater ponds and lush greenery create beautiful landscapes, as well as for its winter beauty, when snow-covered Aomori fir trees form striking “snow monsters". After enjoying trekking, scenic drives, or skiing, a classic way to end the day is by relaxing in one of the area’s many hot springs, known for their abundant natural waters.
