Yakushima, Japan
Nagata Inakahama Beach
In the northwestern part of Yakushima, there is Nagata Inakahama Beach, the largest sandy beach on the island. The coarse white sand, weathered from the granite of Okudake mountains carried by the river, stretches for about 800 meters. Beyond the clear, blue gradation of the sea, Kuchinoerabu Island can be seen. This beautiful beach is also well known as the largest spawning ground for sea turtles in Japan.
Yakushima
Floating on the ocean south of Kagoshima, the island of Yakushima is home to steep mountains, with the 1,936-meter-high Mt. Miyanoura. Thanks to the blessing of rainfall, which is the highest in Japan, the island has a great natural environment with deep green forests and many beautiful waterfalls. A variety of plants can be seen depending on the altitude, and the 1,000-year-old Yakusugi cedars that live in the highlands are carefully protected as a symbol of the island.
