Nishijin, Kyoto, where the history and tradition of Japanese textiles lives and breathes. In one part of Nishijin can be found Tatsumura Art Textiles, who, since their establishment in 1894 with the motif of “restore and create” as their foundation, continue to this day to bring new textiles to the world. The first generation and founder Heizo Tatsumura sought the artistic perfection of textiles, immersing himself in research into the restoration of ancient textiles (kodaigire). Through his “power of textiles” acquired after accumulation of various types of knowledge and techniques, he was able to restore the work of Japanese national treasures such as Shosoin and other weaved patterns (meibutsugire). He also created many new textiles embedded in detail and finesse based on this body of knowledge and techniques. Tatsumura Art Textiles continue up to the present, through the motif of “restore and create,” to produce textiles original and unique to the Tatsumura style, with vibrant colors, sculptural expression, and original patterns imbued with an essential aesthetic essence. These fabrics, every stitch made with wisdom and technique, hold an allure that does not fade over time. The many famous fabrics of Tatsumura Art Textiles create a luxurious aura and give joy and a sense of comfort to touch, each color and pattern has a story woven within. Tatsumura Art Textiles looks forward to welcoming everyone on their adventure to finding their perfect textile, to add color to your life.
