Shiranuka Lighthouse
Located on the eastern coast of the Shimokita Peninsula, Shiranuka Port sits at the southern tip of Higashidori Village. On a nearby cape stands Shiranuka Lighthouse. Though not a major tourist spot, an unpaved road leads to the lighthouse, where you’ll find an informational sign at the entrance. The area is surrounded by rugged cliffs, and on a clear day, the striking contrast of the blue sky, endless Pacific Ocean, and the brilliant white lighthouse creates a stunning view.
Shimokita Peninsula
Located at the northernmost tip of Honshu, the Shimokita Peninsula looks across the Tsugaru Strait to Hokkaido. Home to scenic spots like Mount Osore, one of Japan’s three most sacred sites, and the dramatic rock formations of Hotokegaura, the peninsula is designated as a Quasi-National Park. It's also famous for its seafood, especially Oma tuna. A popular way to explore the region is by rental car or bus from Shimokita Station, taking in the area’s natural beauty and rich history along the way.
