Mount Asama

Mount Asama, one of Japan’s most active volcanoes, rises on the border of Nagano and Gunma prefectures. Standing 2,568 meters tall, its beautiful ridgeline against the wide sky has long made it a beloved symbol of the region. Beyond hiking close to its barren summit, where few plants grow, visitors can also explore the unique landscapes, waterfalls, pastures, and cabbage fields created around the volcano.

Karuizawa

Karuizawa flourished as a post town on the Nakasendo highway in ancient times, and became a summer resort for foreigners in the Meiji era (1868-1912). It has a unique atmosphere with its beautiful churches in the forest that still remain intact and the museums with a lot of individuality. In addition to relaxing in one of Japan's top mountain resorts, there is plenty to do all year round, from golf and cycling in the summer to skiing and hot springs in the winter.
