Naoko Tosa
Artist & Researcher
Naoko Tosa advocates 'Cultural Computing,' a field that uses digital imagery to express the culture humans have accumulated through history—emotions, consciousness, narratives, and ethnicity. Her work is internationally acclaimed; notable projects include 'Neuro Baby,' an AI that recognizes emotions exhibited at Ars Electronica in 1993, and a commissioned work for the 2012 Yeosu Expo in Korea, where she projected a dragon on a massive 350m x 30m LED screen. Her portfolio also includes 'Silence' and 'Landscape over the Clouds' dedicated to Kennin-ji Temple in Kyoto, as well as 'ZEN Computer,' 'Space Flower,' and 'Genesis,' created during her fellowship at the MIT Center for Visual Studies.
Sound of Ikebana (Spring) (Times Square, NY)
Silence (Dedicated to Kennin-ji Temple, Kyoto)
An Expression (The Museum of Modern Art, NY)
Filmed at 2,000 fps
All works are captured in ultra-slow motion at 2,000 frames per second. The energy generated by sound vibrations and the fluid movements of various paints and particles are elevated into striking visual experiences.

Shansui
Historically, Shansui (landscape) paintings allowed people to travel to breathtaking views from their rooms—a 'utopia' where one wished to live and eventually find eternal rest. This spirit is reconstructed for the modern era using fluid dynamics and ink gradations. This 'Living Shansui,' which changes its form moment by moment, invites the modern soul to a place of tranquil rest.

Sound of Ikebana
A signature series where sound vibrations launch colorful liquids into the air, captured by high-speed cameras. This fluid beauty of 1/2,000th of a second, invisible to the eye, possesses an organic vitality reminiscent of 'Ikebana' flower arrangement. It is an invisible art that blends technology with Japanese aesthetics to captivate the world.
Naoko Tosa - Genesis 1 | Atmoph
Genesis
Captured through the 'laminar flow' phenomenon of fluid dynamics using gel and dry ice. The unpredictable shapes formed by bubbles and paint never repeat the same form twice. Described by the Abbot of Kennin-ji Temple as 'Zen meditation,' this experience envelops you in the eternal laws of nature.
