New Palace
The magnificent Baroque New Palace on the western edge of Sanssouci Park was built in 1769 by King Frederick II of Prussia. Unlike the ornate rococo style of the Sanssouci Palace, the king's residence to the east, the palace, decorated with numerous sculptures and clad in a stately atmosphere, seems to express the confidence that the Seven Years' War against the powers had ended in superiority.
Potsdam
Blessed with lakes and rivers, Potsdam is a historical city with beautiful scenery. The city, which has grown since 1660 when it was chosen as the hunting residence of Elector Frederick William of Brandenburg, has numerous Prussian-era palaces that remain in their original state. Potsdam, with its elegant, ornate Rococo architecture and lush greenery, has become a popular tourist destination in the suburbs that can be easily visited from Berlin.
