Mangystau, Kazakhstan
Torysh
Torysh, located in the western part of Mangystau Province, is a mysterious sight of a number of large ball-shaped rocks sitting on dry land. The rocks vary in size and shape, from perfectly spherical rocks to two balls stuck together or broken in half. Also known as the "Valley of the Balls," Torysh has become a popular viewing spot in the Ustyurt Plateau, which is known for its many spectacular landscapes.
Ustyurt Plateau
The Ustyurt Plateau stretches across Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and Turkmenistan. It is a desert area of approximately 200,000 square kilometers, with cliffs more than 150 meters high on its periphery. The uplift of geological strata accumulated at the bottom of the sea in prehistoric times and weathering has created a variety of landforms. Camping tours are popular to visit miraculous and spectacular landscapes such as canyons that seem to cut through the earth and pure white rock peaks.
