Plaza de Armas

The Plaza de Armas was built during the Inca Empire and still functions as the center of Cusco to this day. During the imperial period, it was covered with pure white sand brought from the coast, where various festivals and ceremonies were held. After Spanish rule, a stately Catholic church was built and the plaza was transformed into a European-style plaza surrounded by colonial-style buildings with arcades, but it still retains the flavor of the Incas everywhere and is a beautiful, open space.

City of Cusco

The city of Cusco is located at an altitude of 3,400 meters in the Andes Mountains. The city, which means "navel" in Quechua, flourished as the capital of the vast Inca Empire from the 14th to the 16th century, and when the Spanish conquered the area in 1533, they destroyed the Inca structures and built their own city based on the walls. This fusion of different cultures created a unique and precious landscape, and Cusco is now a thriving tourist city that attracts many visitors.
