Hallstatt
Hallstatt is located at the far end of the Salzkammergut, where glacier-created lakes dot the Alpine mountains. Hallstatt has prospered from salt mining since BC and has developed its own unique culture. The town's beautiful scenery, with its steep mountainsides lined with traditional houses, combined with the Dachstein massif and Lake Hallstatt, all registered as World Heritage sites, has earned it the title of "the most beautiful lakeshore town in the world.
Salzkammergut
The Salzkammergut, located to the east of Salzburg and straddling three Austrian provinces, has long been a favorite resort for aristocrats for its scenic beauty of Alpine mountains and lakes. “Salz" means salt, and "Kammergut" means a royal estate, and from the 14th century onward, this area, where precious salt is extracted, was the domain of the Habsburgs. This paradise, a favorite of Emperor Franz Joseph I, continues to attract many people today as a summer resort and a mecca for winter sports.
