Enkoji Temple
Enkoji Temple is a temple of the Nanzenji school of the Rinzai sect, located at the foot of Higashiyama. The pond garden called "Jugyu-no-niwa" is a famous garden with a long history. In autumn, the contrast of reddish leaves and moss beautifully decorates the garden. The temple, which has been a specialized dojo for nuns since the Meiji era (1868-1912), is also known as a place where you can experience Zen meditation and other ascetic practices.
Ichijoji and Shugakuin
The Shugakuin and Ichijoji areas are dotted with temples with beautiful autumn leaves at the foot of Higashiyama, including the Shugakuin Rikyu with its vast garden. On the other hand, Ichijoji is also known as a ramen battleground. This area is perfect for those who want to enjoy sightseeing and gourmet food in a relaxed atmosphere away from the center of the city.
