Cusco Cathedral

The Cusco Cathedral is a majestic sight facing the Plaza de Armas in the center of Cusco. It was built in 1654 on the site of the former palace of the Incan emperor Viracocha. The church, built in the Gothic-Renaissance style that was popular in Spain at the time, has an impressive wide façade with two towers, an altar made of 300 tons of silver, and an interior decorated with about 400 religious paintings, making it a symbol of Cusco.

City of Cusco

The city of Cusco is located at an altitude of 3,400 meters in the Andes Mountains. The city, which means "navel" in Quechua, flourished as the capital of the vast Inca Empire from the 14th to the 16th century, and when the Spanish conquered the area in 1533, they destroyed the Inca structures and built their own city based on the walls. This fusion of different cultures created a unique and precious landscape, and Cusco is now a thriving tourist city that attracts many visitors.
