Gotanjoji Temple
Situated at the foot of a mountain in the suburbs of Echizen City, Gotanjoji Temple is a Zen temple built on the birthplace of the fourth founder of the Soto sect, Keizan Jokin. Sitting in front of the main hall is the one and only Big Buddha with two cats carved together. Dozens of shelter cats are kept in the precincts of the temple, which is well known as a cat temple. Here, you can spend a soothing time watching the cats relaxing in their own way.
