Húsavík

The town of Húsavík, about an hour's drive from Akureyri, the central city of North Iceland, is lined with wooden houses facing the sea. The name of the town, which means "bay with houses," comes from a legend that Swedes wintered and built their houses here in 870, before the settlement of Iceland began in 874. Known as a hub for whale watching, the town attracts travelers and offers a wide variety of museums and other attractions.

Diamond Circle

In northeastern Iceland, the Diamond Circle is a classic tourist route that takes you through a variety of unique landscapes created by volcanic activity. Starting from the central city of Akureyri in the north, the 250km route will take you to the jade-colored waters of Lake Mývatn and the Dettifoss Waterfall, one of Europe's largest waterfalls, and other spectacular natural formations.
