Keifuku Electric Railroad Arashiyama Line
The Keifuku Electric Railroad Arashiyama Line connects central Kyoto with Arashiyama and is affectionately known as Randen. Kyoto’s only tram line, it serves both visitors and local residents. Alongside its signature purple trams, you can also spot classic ivory-and-green cars and retro-style brown trams. Their nostalgic appearance against the backdrop of Kyoto’s historic temples and shrines has long attracted railway enthusiasts.
Uzumasa
Uzumasa, located in Kyoto’s Ukyo Ward, is an area with a long and fascinating history. Once the base of the Hata clan, an influential immigrant family that settled in ancient Japan, it is home to several kofun burial mounds and Koryuji Temple, the oldest temple in Kyoto, which was founded as the clan’s family temple. Today, the area also attracts visitors with destinations such as the recently renewed Toei Kyoto Studio Park. Riding the nostalgic Randen tram is a wonderful way to explore the many sights and stories of Uzumasa.
