Santa Monica Pier

The Santa Monica Pier, which juts out into the ocean, opened in 1909 and has been in operation for over 100 years. it was threatened with demolition in the 1970s, but a protest movement by residents saved the pier and it has continued to grow ever since. The pier is now a world-famous tourist attraction, and is loved for its various entertainments as well as for its beautiful sunset and ocean views.
