Jiufen Old Street
Jiufen Old Street, with its narrow alleys and stairways lined with quaint old buildings, is the center of Jiufen sightseeing. The main street, Jishan Street, is lined with a variety of stores, making it a great place to eat and shop for souvenirs. From the terrace of the Tea House, where you can enjoy tea made with Taiwanese traditions and techniques, you can enjoy the spectacular view of the mountains and the sea that only Jiufen with its mountainous terrain can offer. In the evening, when the red lanterns are lit, the street becomes even more nostalgic and crowded with tourists.
Jiufen is a town nestled in the mountains of northeastern Taiwan. Before the war, the city flourished as Asia's foremost gold mining town, but it was forgotten for many years due to the closure of the mine after the war. In 1989, the nostalgic atmosphere of Jiufen attracted attention when it was featured in a movie, and now it has regained its original vitality as a major tourist destination. Walking through the narrow alleys lined with red lanterns of tea houses and liquor stores, you will feel as if you are in a story.
