Trento

Trento, the capital of the Trentino–Alto Adige region, sits in a valley along the Adige River, surrounded by the Alps. Thanks to its strategic location, the city has long been an important crossroads. It is best known for hosting the historic Council of Trent, and much of its medieval townscape has been preserved to this day. Rich in history yet quieter than many of Italy's famous destinations, Trento offers a relaxed charm of its own.
