Bibi-Khanym Mosque
Bibi-Khanym Mosque is one of the most representative historical buildings in the Blue City of Samarkand. It was built in 1405 by Timur, who was renowned as the supreme ruler of Central Asia. The mosque was built with the help of nearly 100 elephants, the spoils of his expedition to India, and a great deal of skill and labor was put into its construction. The magnificent structure, which was the largest in the Islamic world at the time of its completion, still exudes a majestic presence that overwhelms visitors even today.
Samarkand
Samarkand developed as an oasis city from B.C. onward, and its prosperity as a Silk Road transit city can still be seen today. It is called the "Blue City" because of the vivid contrast between the blue tiles of Islamic architecture built between the late 14th and 15th centuries, when it was the capital of the Timurid dynasty, and the clear, blue sky. It is a regular part of the trip to visit the mausoleums and mosques, which are decorated with intricate patterns, and take the time to appreciate their stunning beauty.
