Longyearbyen
Longyearbyen, the central city of the Norwegian archipelago of Svalbard, is the northernmost city in the world with a permanent population of more than 1,000 people and is located at 78 degrees north latitude. Surrounded by magnificent nature, the streets of the city are lined with museums and stores that offer a warm welcome to travelers. Relaxing in one of the world's northernmost hotels or restaurants and experiencing the midnight sun or polar night to your heart's content is a classic way to spend time in this city.
Spitsbergen
The Svalbard archipelago in the Arctic Ocean is an extremely cold region with glaciers covering much of it. The only inhabited island, Spitsbergen, is home to Longyearbyen, the northernmost town in the world, where more than 1,000 people have settled. Visitors can experience the unique Arctic midnight sun and polar night, which last about four months each in summer and winter, and glimpse the unique lifestyle of the people who live in the extreme climate where no trees grow.
