Svalbard, Norway
Svalbard Airport
Svalbard Airport is the gateway to the Svalbard archipelago, located approximately 900 km north of the Norwegian mainland. Located in Longyearbyen, the largest town in Svalbard at 78 degrees north latitude, it is the northernmost airport in the world with scheduled commercial flights. The view from the window of the plane as it lands is of an extremely cold region covered in snow and ice. As you step off the airplane's ramp, you can feel the excitement of your upcoming Arctic expedition.
Spitsbergen
The Svalbard archipelago in the Arctic Ocean is an extremely cold region with glaciers covering much of it. The only inhabited island, Spitsbergen, is home to Longyearbyen, the northernmost town in the world, where more than 1,000 people have settled. Visitors can experience the unique Arctic midnight sun and polar night, which last about four months each in summer and winter, and glimpse the unique lifestyle of the people who live in the extreme climate where no trees grow.
